VENICE -- The City Council rejected all three plans for the 125 acres between the airport and the Intracoastal Waterway on Tuesday, saying they focus too heavily on residential development.

Three developers are competing for the project, one of the largest and potentially most lucrative in the city's history.

The council members unanimously agreed that all of the plans went against their wishes and those of the Federal Aviation Administration, which must also approve the projects.

"You saw that in all three bids: It was driven by the residential" aspect, said Mayor Dean Calamaras. …
