About seven years ago, a father began to teach his then-six-year-old son to use guns because the father kept guns in the house, and he wanted "to take the curiosity away," reported the Greenville News (South Carolina). Recently, the father's diligence paid off.
When the father, George Dickert, walked into his Greenville house after having had a cigarette outside on the evening of July 9, an armed man wearing a mask followed him into the house and demanded money. "I ain't playing," he told Dickert.
Dickert then, according to FOX 21.com, tried to grab a gun of his own, leading to a physical altercation with the robber. As Dickert fought with the man, four of the robber's accomplices entered the house, and several of them began beating Dickert. As Dickert was being beaten, his wife and three-year-old daughter looked on in horror.
