While working as a librarian for almost 10 years before pursuing my doctorate, I met a lot of people who told me, "It must be interesting working with all those books," but then confessed to feeling a little intimidated by libraries.

When I went on for a doctorate, a number of doctoral students also confessed to being uncomfortable using the library. After their confession, they usually asked for help in finding information on their subject, as they "were not having much luck."
