Despite budget crunches, current and predicted trends in the workplace present opportunities for campus professionals in work/life services and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
Dr. Donald G. Jorgensen, president of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association and head of Jorgensen/Brooks Group, a national EAP and organizational training firm, spoke at the 10th annual conference of the College and University Work/Family Association (CUWFA) in Phoenix in February and later with WIHE.

He listed some current trends:
* 88% of employees in a 1997 national study said their jobs now require them to work longer hours, and 68% had to work faster.
* The biggest concern for young workers (49% of women and 45% of men) is not having enough time for both work and family.
* 50% of men in the U.S. aged 60-64 are retired, and by 2030, 32% of the population will be over 65.
