HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Neuraxial analgesia does not appear to raise the risk of fetal heart rate or uterine contraction abnormalities, compared with systemic labor analgesia, Dr. Barbara Scavone noted at the annual meeting of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology.
Neuraxial analgesia (spinal or epidural anesthesia) is associated with an increased risk of late decelerations, although it's not dear if this is clinically significant, added Dr. Scavone of the department of anesthesiology at Northwestern University, Chicago.
