SEOUL, April 1 Asia Pulse - South Korea's big mobile phone manufacturers are focusing on South American and other emerging markets to diversify their export markets, industry sources said today.
Samsung Electronics Co., LG Electronics Inc. and Pantech Co. and its allied company Curitel Communications Inc. have already decided to step up marketing in central and South America, capitalizing on South Korea's first-ever free trade accord with Chile which went into effect today.
The companies also consider Southeast Asia as another promising market for them, said the sources.
LG Electronics, the world's sixth largest handset maker, is eyeing on Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, in an effort to preempt the regional mobile phone market with its code division multiple access (CDMA) technology, they said.
