JAPAN, CHINA, S KOREA TO JOINTLY SUPPORT LINUX
TOKYO - The Japanese, Chinese and South Korean governments will join hands along with their domestic businesses to standardize the Linux operating system to facilitate better technological cooperation and development of digital consumer electronics and other products.
Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which is leading the joint effort, hopes that the cooperation will lead to the creation of a viable alternative to Microsoft Corp.'s Windows, stronger information security, and lower prices for personal computers and other products.
NEC TO RELEASE EASY-TO-USE TOUCH PANEL PC FOR BEGINNERS
TOKYO - NEC Corp. (TSE:6701) announced Tuesday that it will launch a hand-held personal computer series for beginners that features an LCD (liquid crystal display) touch panel.
The LOOKCLUB series will offer minimal functions, such as Internet access and e-mail, and allow users to operate them by touching the screen with a finger or a pen.
