PAKISTAN AGRICULTURE MAY ACHIEVE 4.2% GROWTH TARGET: REPORT.
LAHORE, April 1 Asia Pulse - Despite negative impact of lower than the targeted cotton crop and huge loss to poultry sector due to the 'bird flu' scare, the agriculture sector is likely to record a reasonably good growth during the current financial year.
The above target production of rice and sugarcane offset much of the impact of the relatively weak cotton crop. However, achieving the 4.2 per cent growth target for agriculture during fiscal year 2003-04 is only possible if wheat harvest exceeds its target by a substantial margin and the livestock sub-sector remains at least on target, says State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) second quarter report issued.
