SEOUL: The stunning victory by the 7-month-old Uri Party in South Korea's 17th parliamentary elections may add extra strain on the nation's foreign policy.

The Assembly dominance by the newly formed liberal party is expected to tinge bilateral relations, especially with the United States, since many of its members mostly young liberal reformists are trying to loosen the knot with the global superpower.

They have been calling for broader independence from American influence and hinted at reconsidering their support for the US-led war in Iraq.
