HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Lower-limb neurologic complications after labor epidural could be a sign of obstetric nerve injury if symptoms don't resolve within 24 hours, Dr. Manuel Vallejo said.
In a study of 20,500 patients who received labor epidural analgesia blocks at Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, only 52 (0.25%) were found to have post-delivery numbness in the lower limbs, he said in a poster presentation at the annual meeting of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology.
