THE PHILIPPINE Navy yesterday apprehended 14 Chinese fishermen poaching around Fearless Shoal near the contested Spratly Islands.

Navy spokesperson Capt. Geronimo Malabanan said the BRP Apolinario Mabini was patrolling the area around southern Palawan when its crew spotted the China-registered fishing vessel at around 7:25 a.m.

The Chinese vessel, with a gross tonnage of 30 tons and measuring 20 meters in length, tried to flee in the direction of the Malaysian border.
