ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS Closer Matt Mantel experienced problems with the nails on his index and middle fingers throughout spring training. He strengthened them by applying nail polish. When the index finger bothers him, his fastball is affected, and the middle finger affects his breaking pitches. The club doesn't want Mantel to alter his mechanics to compensate.... C Robby Hammock (knee) is expected to come off the disabled list in mid-April. He didn't have a sufficient number of spring at-bats. Brent Mayne and Bobby Estalella will handle the catching duties.
