In the physical and psychological mold of three-time Masters champion Gary Player, diminutive lefthander Mike Weir relies on a great short game and mental toughness. Augusta puts a premium on driving accuracy (he ranked 14th on the tour entering last week's BellSouth Classic), ballstriking (10th), hitting greens (second) and putting (12th). Winning here last year changed his life, and he liked the feeling. If he doesn't repeat, he'll fight to the bitter end.
