Nearly one-third of Hong Kong teenagers have felt depressed and hopeless for two consecutive weeks over the past 12 months, and 4 per cent have repeatedly attempted suicide, according to a survey by Chinese University.
The figures were comparable with those in the United States, said Albert Lee, head of family medicine at the university, who carried out the survey last year. The results were released on Thursday. Professor Lee was concerned by the high levels.
