The Raveonettes, Chain Gang of Love (Columbia)
Danish duo Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo have crafted the perfectly, filthy dirty rock'n'roll album. From their motto "This is whiplash rock'n'roll" to the dying notes of "New York Was Great" they thrash through 13 anthems to cruisin', gum snapping love dares, black leather, drinking, smoking cigarettes, and sex behind the chicken shack. Or in the stairwell: "Dancing on the stairs I'll never get back home/Gonna laugh and smile gonna make me moan/Do your little thing and then remember why/You chose me instead of someone else" ("Noisy Summer"). All of this comes out of an Everly Brothers-style duet soaring over heavily tremolo'd guitars, sopping with fat, sloppy echo--an incessant buzz that you want to swat.
Mmes. Wagner and Foo are backed by guitarist Manoj Ramdas ...
