Jack Casady: Dream Factor (Eagle Records ER 200082)
Some insight into my rock and roll tastes may be derived from the fact that I was graduated from high school in 1967, the year of the Summer of Love. The "San Francisco Sound" was quite the rage then, and my favorite of all the California groups was Jefferson Airplane. The first time I saw them live, in 1967, a friend and I hitchhiked from Provo to Salt Lake City, arriving during the middle of Taj Mahal's opening set, getting their so late that our vantage point was off to the side and behind the stage. But it was SO exciting! I saw them next in Chicago's Grant Park, then at a small club in Joliet, where it was unbelievably loud, but also unbelievably intense.
The final time I saw them live was once again in Salt Lake City in late 1969 or early 1970. What made this concert really special was that before the show the band was just kind of hanging around, and I actually got to shake hands with my all-time hero of the electric bass (my favorite rock instrument), Jack Casady.
