The Oilers selected Smyth sixth overall in the 1994 draft. This is his ninth season with Edmonton, and he is leading the way as it makes a late push to reach the playoffs. This is the first season since 2000-01 that injuries haven't limited Smyth. Entering the week, he led the team in both assists and goals. In a 14-game stretch from February 27 through March 24, when the Oilers went 8-0-2-4 and pulled themselves into playoff position, Smyth had five goals and nine assists.
