After four disappointing seasons with the Clippers, Lamar Odom has emerged as a team leader in his first season with the Heat and has the team involved in its first playoff race in three seasons.
TSN: Did you think this was a playoff team all along, even when your team was 0-7?
LO: I'm confident. When you start 0-7, you have your doubts. But I knew the East was always fair game. And I knew we were going to get better.
TSN: Were you unsure what would happen when Stan Van Gundy took over as coach for Pat Riley four days before the start of the season?
LO: Like I always tell people, they didn't bring in a coach from the University of Wherever. That was Pat's right-hand man. We picked up where Pat left it.
TSN: Having now experienced the playoff race for the first time in your five seasons, will anything else from this point be unacceptable?
LO: I can't imagine not being part of this. There's a big difference between the teams that are racing for the playoffs and the teams that are just playing to finish the season out. And I wouldn't ever want to again be one of those teams that are just finishing the season out.
