MAJOR producers of greenhouse gases yesterday breathed a sigh of reliefas the Environmental Protection Agency granted a significant change to the controversialemissions trading scheme.

The organisation said it had submitted its plan for curbing output of carbon dioxide to theEuropean Commission yesterday.

Following submissions from major corporations and employers group IBEC, the EPAagreed to allow the return of unused permits for the production of greenhouse gases toeach sector.
