INSURANCE companies should have a windfall tax imposed on them because of their failure to reduce premiums despite a return to healthy insurance profits,an Oireachtas committee will be told today.
The Alliance for Insurance Reform (AIR) is set to make the call, claiming the insuranceindustry has duped a whole host of bodies to support insurance reform while deliveringminuscule premium reductions.
In the past the Alliance has accused insurance companies of "gouging the market" after itwas revealed in this newspaper that combined profits of [euro]500m were made by just four of the country's insurers.
