THE National Hunt game enjoys its last major event of the season in Britainwith the three-day Aintree meeting starting today.
While we still have Easter at Fairyhouse and the Punchestown festival to look forwardtoo, Aintree is the last big hooray for national hunt followers in Britain, capped by Saturday's big feature, the Grand National.
We backed First Gold each-way in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and it was painful to seehim make all the running, setting the race up nicely for Best Mate and the others who passed him around the last fence.
He is still a class act and those tactics denied him any chance of winning.
However he has won today's feature before at Aintree, the Martell Cognac Gold Cup, and ran out a 14-length winner of the event 12 months ago.
