ENERGY minister Milko Kovachev will submit a project to the parliamentary energy committee, proposing that power generation facilities in Bulgaria are merged in a single company to mitigate the next electricity price hikes, deputy minister of energy Anguel Minev told reporters.
The project claims that some EUR 2 billion are necessary to repair the existing power generation facilities and build new ones. To avoid having the end consumers pay the invested amount, the ministry suggests that all power generation facilities are consolidated in a single company to manage and sell them. The sales proceeds will be re-invested in rehabilitation, Kovachev's project reads.
Further the ministry suggests that the future consolidated holding company acquires at least 67% stakes in the Kozlodui nuclear power plant (NPP), the Bobov Doll, Varna, Maritsa East-2 and the Rousse thermal power plants (TPP), in the Brickel coal factory and other generation facilities. The holding will be delegated the competence to conduct strategic planning.
