The judge in the trial of six German business executives charged in connection with Vodafone's takeover of mobile phone operator Mannesmann said Wednesday that criminal charges were unwarranted in the case, but that the trial would go on.
Judge Brigitte Koppenhoefer said in Duesseldorf that payments received by Mannesmann's former CEO, Klaus Esser, and other executives may have violated securities law, a civil offense.
But she said the ruling was preliminary and that the trial would go on.
