(From Canberra Times)
Canberra voters get the worst deal in Australia, federal Parliament was told yesterday.
Labor's Bob McMullan made the claim as he said the Northern Territory had two federal seats with fewer voters than in his electorate of Fraser.
''That is a travesty of one vote, one value,'' he said.
His criticism came during debate on legislation to create a formula to ensure the Northern Territory retains two seats.
Without the legislation, the NT would lose one seat because of relativities with the growing populations in the larger states.
That relatively means the ACT is extremely unlikely to regain a third seat.
