A retired builder and architect will be employed by the ACT Government to help people trying to rebuild their homes after they were destroyed in the January 18 firestorm nearly 15 months ago.
The appointments come as development approvals have been approved to replace just over half of the 491 properties destroyed in the fires.
Seventy-four certificates of occupancy have been issued, meaning 15 per cent of the destroyed homes have been rebuilt and occupied.
The ACT Planning and Land Authority said that from March 22, 243 development applications had been approved, representing 256 dwellings. That represents 52 per cent of the destroyed dwellings.
A total of 65 of the development applications are for homes being built by people who have bought bare blocks and are moving into the area. There have been a total of 171 building approvals.
