It is out with the new and in with the old for the next two weeks, as Canberra's Heritage Festival kicks off today. To start off the festivities, Canberrans are invited to explore the historic Corroboree Park precinct and Corroboree Park Gardens book launch.
The Minister for the Arts and Heritage, Bill Wood, and the Australian Garden History Society will launch the book, Early Ainslie Gardens at Corroboree Park in Ainslie.
Author Ann Somers moved to the area in 1988 and discovered the need for a book to keep a record of the gardens in the area.
''I became aware that a lot of old people that lived in the area were moving out and a lot of the gardens were disappearing. I thought it should be recorded,'' she said.
Somers said the historic gardens could not be protected, unlike the historic houses and trees in the area.
