With butterflies and poetic words, Canberra's young people have emerged from their cocoons to tentatively express themselves as part of National Youth Week celebrations.

For the past four weeks, Belconnen teenagers have come together under the guiding hand of U-Turn Youth Services to try and express themselves through art and poetry.

On Tuesday, their efforts were recognised when the Creative Expressions art exhibition, made up of their works, was launched at the Belconnen

Community Centre Art Gallery. With the help of artists Teffany Thiedeman and Barak Zelig, the teenagers were asked to express themselves using a butterfly as motivation and clay, glitter and paint as tools.

The results varied from birds to angels to people flying with butterfly wings.
