A Mongolian student who admitted assaulting a guard who was stabbed during an attack by a group of men at the Southern Cross Club in Woden in February was given a six- month suspended jail sentence in the ACT Magistrates Court yesterday.
Achbaatar Oyungua, 21, pleaded guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He is studying in the ACT on a visa which runs out tomorrow. Oyungua had been part of a group of people who assaulted the security guard at about 12.05am on Wednesday, February 4, after the guard woke up an Asian male who was asleep in a chair in the club and asked him to leave.
The security guard had glass ashtrays, glasses and chairs thrown at him. He was also kicked and punched receiving injuries to his head and face and was stabbed in the back.
The guard was taken to hospital where he was treated for a 6cm knife wound to the lower back.
