It was celebrations all round when two of Australia's best-known children's literary characters turned 21 on Tuesday.

The young and the old turned out for Weetangera Primary's Possum Magic birthday party, one of many celebrations across Australia.Parents, teachers and children all sang happy birthday to the loveable Australian characters, Hush and Grandma Poss, who have captivated readers' imaginations since the book was published in 1983.

This Australian tale by Mem Fox has been continuously in print for 21 years.

Lisa Riepon, a mother and P&C president, who brought her own copy of the book along with her, said children loved Possum Magic because they could relate to the Australian places, animals and food.

Possum Magic is the tale of a young possum, Hush, who is turned invisible by her grandma.
