(From Canberra Times)
Canterbury Crusaders coach Robbie Deans has called on his team to produce a similar defensive effort to the one which blunted the ACT Brumbies' attack in 2003.
In the final round of last year's Super 12, Deans brought a wounded Crusaders team to Canberra after a winless tour of South Africa.
Against the at-home favourites, who had beaten the powerful Wellington Hurricanes just a week before, the Crusaders produced countless bone-jarring hits and secured a 28-21 victory.
That result should have ended the Brumbies' year, but a series of unlikely results combined to let them scrape into fourth place and the semi-finals.
Deans said the Crusaders would need to erect another brick wall at Jade Stadium on Saturday night to shut out the in-form Brumbies attack.
''That performance against the Brumbies in Canberra last year was one of the best performances ever by a Crusaders team,'' Deans said.
