Fillies have dominated the last four Golden Slippers but Gai Waterhouse rates time and not gender the key to Saturday's $3million showpiece.

Debate has raged over whether the 3kg pull fillies receive from colts and geldings in the Slipper is too much.

Catbird was the last male to win, in 1999 when trained at Queanbeyan by Frank Cleary.

Blue Diamond heroine Alinghi is at short odds to become the first favourite since Courtza in 1989 to salute on Saturday and if punters are right, fillies will land a fifth straight victory in the Group One race.

Waterhouse will start speedy gelding Dance Hero and Blue Diamond runner- up Wager.

She agrees the handicapping gives the females an edge but does not believe it to be the determining factor.
