American women may be willing to self-manage more of the steps in a mifepristone-misoprostol medical abortion regimen, Cynthia Harper, Ph.D., of the University of California, San Francisco, and her colleagues reported.
The investigators collected data from 2,121 women participating in a trial of mifepristone-misoprostol at 17 U.S. health centers.
The women, aged 18-45 years, were seeking early termination abortions within 63 days of their last menstrual periods, the investigators said (Contraception 65[2]:133-42, 2002).
Food and Drug Administration protocols require that women take mifepristone and misoprostol only at a clinic or hospital and under a physician's supervision.
