Berlin's Bode Museum reopened Tuesday after years of restoration, providing a palatial new home for a wide-ranging collection of European sculpture and Byzantine art spanning some 1,500 years.
Its rebirth marks a big step forward for a mammoth plan to restore the neoclassical Museum Island complex, a tourist magnet and UNESCO World Heritage site that was blighted by heavy World War II damage and postwar neglect.
