MUNICH -- New studies of the genetics of atopic dermatitis are yielding "quite profound" surprises, Dr. William O.C.M. Cookson said at the 10th Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.
He recently performed a genome-wide scan of 148 nuclear families which included 254 children with physician-diagnosed atopic dermatitis, 153 with asthma, and 139 with both. The genomic screen identified four chromosomal regions, or loci, containing genes strongly linked to atopic dermatitis.
