Rosalind Franklin lived only 37 years, from 1920-1958, yet her brilliance and dedication as a researcher at Cambridge, Paris and King's College in London led to the first photograph of the "B" form of DNA in 1952.
To honor her, and to raise her from obscurity to be a role model for the women who are half of medical students today, the Fitch University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School will change its name to the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Sciences in July.
"The discovery of the structure of DNA was the single most important advance of modern Biology," noted the school's Website. Researchers Watson and Crick used her photo of DNA as the basis for their famous double helix model of DNA in 1953.
