Virtually all colleges and universities try to hide or distort their official records of crime, so their campuses seem safe and welcoming for students. But a Georgia judge ruled that Mercer University GA must open its campus crime records to comply with the state's open records law.
Making the complaint that triggered the ruling was attorney Amanda A. Farahany, who represents a female ex-student claiming to have been raped on the campus in 2000. If her search of police records going back to the early 1990s shows a pattern of sexual assaults on campus, it will be easier to show neglect by the school.
