Imagine having throbbing feet and an aching back from standing all day, every day. Those are the afflictions Liz McMullen experienced before she lost 40 pounds. McMullen, a Marshall University nursing major from Huntington, W.V., said after a long days work at St. Mary's Hospital she knew if she lost a few pounds her aches and pains would go away.
McMullen began the Atkins Diet in August and has steadily lost weight since. She said she had tried other diets, like Weight Watchers, but had never seen nearly the same results. Forty pounds later she said her feet feel better and she has lowered her blood pressure.
Low carbohydrate diets are quickly gaining popularity. Low-carb foods, from ice cream to pasta, are plastered throughout supermarket aisles and even restaurants, like T.G.I. Fridays', are beginning to accommodate low-carb dieters.
