It was a weekend [20-21 March] of rage, arson and killings in Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Benue States [southeast Nigeria] as some communities opted for violence to settle land disputes.

In Makurdi, the Benue State capital, the Minda and Tiv were pitted in a communal clash on Sunday that left 20 persons dead and 400 houses burnt. But the police put the death toll at six. About 22 persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Between the Ikot Offiong in Cross River State and Oku Iboku in Akwa Ibom State, it was also a titanic battle as four persons were reportedly killed and 13 declared …
