Dakar, Senegal (PANA) - Algeria became the first Member State to ratify the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage signed 2003, after completing the required procedure on 15 March, a UNESCO release indicated Friday.

The Convention, which was adopted at the UNESCO general conference last October, would come into force three months after ratification by at least 30 States.

"Algeria's rapidity clearly shows its firm commitment to safeguard intangible heritage, and is a sign of the critical importance that intangible heritage has for many people," UNESCO director general …
