This October is the 39th annual Lupus Awareness Month. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease of unknown cause in which the body attacks itself, causing tissue damage and inflammation to various organs. Anyone can develop the disease, which affects 1.5 million Americans, although 90 percent are women. It can be hard to diagnose, as symptoms are similar to other diseases.
