The government is not keen on approving the petition by jeepney transport groups for a provisional fare hike.

A source from the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) said an approval was not likely to happen because a provisional increase in the jeepney fares will set off a round of price increases in commodities and wages.

The source said the government, through the DoTC, has hinted in previous meetings with the jeepney associations that the provisional fare hike could trigger price increases in basic commodities.
