FOREIGN Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar was declared the MP for Kota Tinggi after Pas candidate Abu Bakar Sakak, who filed his nomination papers on Saturday, withdrew his candidacy at 5pm yesterday.
Returning officer Abdul Jaafar, who accepted the letter from Abu Bakar at the Dewan Jubli Intan in Kota Tinggi, announced that Syed Hamid (picture), who is the incumbent, is deemed to have been returned unopposed.
Syed Hamid was present during the announcement with Johor BN supporters.
Contacted after the announcement, Syed Hamid said he was surprised but at the same time touched by the Opposition …
