MEDFORD, Ore., and EUSTIS, Fla., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Jackson & Perkins, the world's largest rose grower, has granted exclusive rights to MerryGro Farms, Inc. to grow and distribute its roses on Fortuniana rootstock.
Long known to perform better in warm climates than other rootstock varieties, Fortuniana is also resistant to nematodes, gall and certain root diseases.
"We are pleased to work with MerryGro Farms to provide our customers with the best roses for their area," said Charlie Anderson, Senior Vice President of Jackson & Perkins Wholesale. "For those in the South and Southwest where the heat or nematodes would overcome other varieties, the Fortuniana rootstock will enable them to enjoy beautiful roses."
"Until now Fortuniana-based roses have been a 'specialty' variety in many areas," said Andre Raab, President and CEO of MerryGro Farms. "We aim to make them the norm, and we are happy to partner with Jackson & Perkins to do so."
MerryGro Farms will grow the roses for Jackson & Perkins at its headquarters in Florida and will distribute them to nurseries and garden centers around the country. It will also make them available to landscapers and government projects.
