The recommended daily allowance of vitamin C for young healthy women should be increased to 90 mg, according to Dr. Mark Levine of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md., and his associates.
In April 2000, the academy suggested 75 mg vitamin C as the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for women. However, this dosage was extrapolated from studies in men (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 98[17]:9842-46, 2001).
