People with diabetes might be more prone to certain types of cancer and/or cancer death, Linda C. Koo, Ph.D., said at the annual scientific sessions of the American Diabetes Association.

In a literature review of 93 case-control and cohort studies published between 1980 and 2000, Dr. Koo of GlaxoSmith Kline Pharmaceuticals, Collegevile, Pa., found statistically significant associations between diabetes and cancers of the liver (relative risk 2.5) and pancreas (2.5).
