Included among the plentiful surviving records of the archdeaconry of St Albans are fourteen probate registers containing copies of wills proved in the archdeacon's court between 1415 and 1545. From the register for the years 1471-1536 the editor of the present volume has produced what she modestly describes as 'extracts', but what in fact is an interesting and readable calendar of 303 wills presented for probate between 1471 and 1500. Wills written in Latin (the majority) are translated; those written in English are transcribed.
