This work comes from a very able evangelical pastor in Berlin and appeared as part of his Promotion in 1994. In it he offers a careful analysis of Gregory's Catechetical oration (= Or. cat.). He well and convincingly illustrates Gregory's method of argument. By beginning with assumptions accepted by his dialogue partners, Gregory endeavours to lead them to understand and accept the distinctive truths of the Christian gospel. Above all is this the case in Gregory's treatment of the redemption and of Christ's triumph over the power of the devil. But Gregory, in Kees's view, goes further than this.
