Seoul, [Tuesday] 9 March: South Korea's pursuit of a free trade agreement (FTA) with Japan should be postponed until after a similar pact with China is signed or be replaced by a three-way deal among them, a state-funded economic think tank said Tuesday.
The envisaged two-way trade pact will have little effect on increasing South Korea's exports or could even widen its trade deficit with Japan, according to the Korea Institute for Industrial Economy and Trade.
South Korea and Japan are scheduled to present their respective drafts of the bilateral trade pact to each other at a third round of talks scheduled for 26-28 April in Seoul.
