TAIPEI, March 8 Asia Pulse - Mainland China emerged as Taiwan's top trading partner in 2003 for the first time, with two-way trade across the Taiwan Strait hitting an all-time high of US$46.3 billion, according to government tallies released over the weekend.
Taiwan exported US$35.4 billion worth of products to mainland China last year, up 20 per cent from the 2002 level, while its imports from the mainland increased 37.9 per cent to US$11 billion, tallies compiled by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) showed.
