An Aberdeen woman has attacked a sheriff's decision to let a care worker off with community service after he had made her mother's life a misery.
Mairi Bell feels her mother has "lost her spark" after being abused by 43-year-old Ken Bowie.
Bowie was found guilty last month of pushing elderly residents, pulling an old lady's hair, and swearing aggressively at confused dementia patients.
The incidents happened at the Barleystone Nursing Home, in Falkirk, between March 7, 2005 - when Bowie joined the staff - and May 31 the same year when he was sacked, after alarmed co-workers alerted the matron.
Ms Bell's mother, Mary McNee, 85, had her hair pulled by Bowie, who also made sick comments about her deceased husband. Mrs McNee, a dementia patient, had asked Bowie distractedly where her long-dead husband Adam was, callous Bowie tugged her hair and shouted at her that he was away with Eve.
Ms Bell said: "His treatment of my mother was appalling, and I am very angry that he has brought the caring professions into disrepute. I am glad Bowie has been found guilty. Now he must not be allowed to work with elderly, or indeed any vulnerable, people again." She added: "My mother was widowed at 45, and brought me and my sister up alone. She deserved to be treated with respect in her old age.
